CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast soccer was unable to come up with their first Ohio Valley Conference victory of the season on Senior Day at Houck Stadium after losing to Eastern Kentucky by a 1-0 margin. The Redhawks fall to 1-7-3 overall and 0-3-2 in the OVC this year, while the Colonels improve to 5-7-2 overall and 3-2-0 in the OVC.

The first half held many scoring opportunities for the Redhawks as they took five total shots on goal, led by senior Nicole Bussman with two. Stephanie Lynch of EKU recorded all five saves though. The Colonels only managed to get three shots off in the half, but one of them was able to get by sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Beckham.

After going 43 minutes without any goals, senior Laura Caldon, after coming off the bench in the 30th minute, was able to chip one over Beckham into the bottom left corner of the net. The goal gave Caldon her third of the year, while Stephanie Murray earned her first assist and Gabriella Wolf notched her third assist of the season.

In the second half, the Redhawks came out firing on goal as they took 12 shots from the field. Despite outshooting the Colonels 12-2, no one was able to score to even the game. Bussman continued to lead her team in shots as she took four in the second half, boosting her total to six for the game. Mabel Velarde, Vanessa Hart, and Lauren Lacopo also added two shots a piece to the total. For the game, the Redhawks outshot the Colonels 17-5.

In goal, Rachel Harrington replaced Beckham in the second half. Harrington recorded one save while not allowing any goals go by. Lynch out-saved both SEMO goalkeepers though by an 8-3 margin.

Southeast will hit the road for their final three games of the season with their next contest coming on Friday in Clarksville, Tenn. against Austin Peay at 7 p.m. Following the game against the Lady Govs, the Redhawks will travel across the state to take on the Golden Eagles of Tennessee Tech on Sunday at 1 p.m.
