CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Behind two late first-half goals from freshmen Erin Slattery and Laura Hauskins, the Otahkians defeated preseason number one Tennessee Tech 2-0 Saturday night and claimed first place in the OVC.

The goals scored at 36:30 and 41:03, respectively were Slattery's sixth and Hauskins first. Assists on the goals were from freshmen Marla Gianino, and Katie Huelsing.

The game was a defensive masterpiece by the Otahks as Tech could only muster five shots, with three on goal. Southeast, on the other hand had 15 shots, nine on goal. Senior goalkeeper Beth Guccione recorded her eighth shutout of the season, tying the single-season school record held previously by last year's keeper Tami Hebert. Guccione already held the career-record for shutouts at Southeast.

The win was the 10th straight at Houck Stadium, dating back to last season. All 10 victories have been by shutout.

The victory was also the first ever over Tech in four chances.

Southeast has also put itself in the driver's seat for the OVC Regular Season Championship, by defeating preseason number one and two, Tech and Eastern Illinois.

Southeast next plays host to Morehead State on Friday October 19 at 7 p.m. at Houck Stadium.
