Soccer Knocks Off Eastern Kentucky At Home, 2-0

Oct. 15, 2006

Box Score

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri State soccer snapped its 200-plus minute scoreless streak as it posted a 2-0 shutout win over visiting Eastern Kentucky in Ohio Valley Conference play this afternoon at Houck Stadium. With the win, the Redhawks improve their record to 7-6-1 (4-2-1) this season, while the Colonels fall to 2-11-2 (0-5-2).

In the first half, Southeast was the aggressor as it produced a 9-1 edge in shot attempts, but EKU goalkeeper Christina Graul tallied five saves to keep the visitors alive in the contest.

The Redhawks struck first in the 65th minute as freshman midfielder Lauren Lacopo (Troy, IL/Triad) tallied her first collegiate goal off a pass from freshman forward Cassie Brown (Port Orchard, WA/South Kitsap). The goal was the first for Southeast since last weekend's 5-1 win at Tennessee Tech.

The score remained the same until the 88:29 mark when freshman forward Rachel Harrington (Vancouver, WA/Skyway) added an insurance tally off a rebound from the crossbar for the final margin.

Southeast finished with a 23-5 shooting advantage and an 8-0 lead in corner kicks, while senior goalkeeper Lindsay Pickering (St. Charles, MO/St. Charles West) recorded four saves to post her sixth shutout of the year. Graul tallied a game-high 13 saves for Eastern Kentucky.

The Redhawks hit the road for their final two OVC contests next weekend, beginning with a match at Jacksonville State on Oct. 20 at 7 p.m.
