Otahkians Back on Track With Dominant Performance Against Central Arkansas After loss to OVC #1 Eastern Illinois, Southeast moves to 7-5-1.
CONWAY, ARK. (October 15, 2000) - The Southeast Missouri State soccer team bounced back after a heartbreaking loss to Eastern Illinois, to defeat Central Arkansas 5-0 Sunday. The Otahkians (7-5-1, 1-3 OVC) used ball control and good defense to shut down the Bears. Southeast recorded 27 shots for the game and did not allow Central Arkansas a single shot. The Otahks got on the board early when Erika Todd (Fr., Granite City, Ill.) found the goal off a run down the left side. That would be the only goal of the first half but Southeast would not be content with a 1-0 win. Southeast came out strong in the second half as Nichole Thiele (Sr., Cape Girardeau, Mo.) scored two goals off assists from Valerie Henderson (Fr., Florrisant, Mo.) and Carolyn Behnen (Fr., St. Louis, Mo.). Todd would later add a goal and assist a Karen Schmitt (Fr., Washington, Mo.) score. Southeast's next home game will be October 17 at 7:00 p.m. against Tennesee-Martin at Houck Stadium. It will be the Otahkians fifth and final Ohio Valley Conference game of the season and an important battle to determine seeding for the upcoming OVC Tournament. |
