Otahkians Close Regular Season With Fourth Consecutive Victory Southeast heads to post season with 10-5-1 record.
CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO. (October 23, 2000) - The Southeast Missouri State Otahkian soccer team used a punishing ball control attack that produced 45 shots in a 4-0 victory over Lipscomb University on Monday night. The Southeast (10-5-1) defense held Lipscomb without a single shot for the entire game. This is the second time this season they have held an opponent shotless as they also blanked Central Arkansas a week ago. Southeast got two, second half goals from freshman Jen Zimmerman (Wildwood, Mo.) as several Otahkian starters sat out the second half to rest up for the upcoming OVC Tournament. Nichole Thiele (Sr., Cape Girardeau, Mo.) scored her 12th goal of the season in the first half and Valerie Henderson (Fr., Florrisant, Mo.) added her sixth goal of the season in the second frame. Southeast goalie Tami Hebert (Sr., O'Fallon, Mo.) celebrated Senior Night by producing her OVC leading eighth shutout of the season. Hebert is the only Otahkian not returning next season. Southeast's 45 shots were a season high eclipsing the 27 shots against Central Arkansas. This game marked the Otahkians fourth consecutive victory and shutout, and the teams sixth victory and shutout in its last seven games. Southeast will next play Morehead State in the first round of the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament. Game time is 12:00 p.m. on Friday in Charleston, Ill. at Eastern Illinois University. |
