Tennessee-Martin Beats Southeast 1-0

Oct. 23, 2005

Box Score

Martin, Tenn. - Tennessee-Martin recorded its first ever victory over the Southeast Missouri State women's soccer team in the OVC regular season finale. The 1-0 Skyhawk win leaves Southeast with an OVC record of 5-3-1.

In other OVC action on Sunday, Samford beat Austin Peay 4-1 to claim the regular season title with a record of 7-2 while Murray State and Eastern Illinois battled to a two-overtime 0-0 tie leaving Eastern Illinois in second and Murray State in a tie with Southeast for third place.

Finishing third will give Southeast a home game in the opening round of the OVC tournament on Tuesday, Nov. 1, when they will host Austin Peay or Jacksonville State.

The Skyhawks' victory over the Redhawks marks the first time in school history UT Martin has defeated SEMO.

Both teams fought through a scoreless first half until the Skyhawks picked up the first and last goal of the game with just 7:45 left in the second half.

The senior duo of Katie Jackson and Dani Myrick brought home the victory when Jackson went on a breakaway run for the goal and found Myrick waiting for the pass. The goal was Myrick's seventh of the season and 34th career goal as she is the Skyhawks' all-time leading scorer.

Southeast will warm up for OVC Tournament play by hosting two matches this week. On Wednesday, the Redhawks will host Arkansas-Little Rock in a 7 p.m. match at Houck Stadium and on Friday they will host South Dakota State at 7 p.m.
