Soccer Falls to Eastern Kentucky, 1-0

Oct. 25, 2009

Final Stats

By Brett Maikowski, Southeast Missouri State Information

RICHMOND, Ky. - The Redhawks soccer team suffered a tough 1-0 loss at Eastern Kentucky with less than four minutes to play in regulation. Southeast and EKU are now tied for sixth place. The Redhawks will need at least a tie against Murray State to secure an Ohio Valley Conference Tournament berth.

Southeast (7-6-3, 2-2-3 OVC) again had limited offensive opportunities, as they took no corner kicks the entire match. They were also outshot for the second straight match by a 10-7 margin. Bobbi Jo Schlick and Ashley Runion combined for a total of one shot in the match.

Eastern Kentucky, on the other hand, had seven corner kick opportunities, including five in the second half. Their game winning goal came in the 87th minute from Carly Muller. Alex Raich fed Muller, who then shot in her third goal of the season from 25 yards out to keep Eastern Kentucky's season alive.

In goal, Kristen Starkey recorded four saves, while giving up one goal. EKU goalkeeper Stephanie Lynch snagged five saves, while capturing her sixth shutout of the season, which ties Starkey.

Southeast and Eastern Kentucky are now tied for sixth in the OVC with nine points. SEMO will wrap up conference play at Murray State (3 p.m.) Thursday.
