Southeast knocks Murray State out of the OVC tournament

Oct. 30, 2002

Box Score

MURRAY, Ky. - Southeast Missouri State Soccer defeated Murray State 2-1 in overtime, eliminating them from the Ohio Valley Conference tournament. The win makes Southeast undefeated in the conference and gives them added confidence going into the tournament.

Junior midfielder Julie Wunderlich was the key for Southeast's victory. She scored the tying goal with less than three minutes of regulation play left in the game and then scored the game-winning game in overtime to send Murray home for the season. Wunderlich first played a defensive kick out of the box by a Murray State player and shot it back unassisted for 30 yards out over the head of the goalkeeper to tie the game. Then in overtime she kick another shot back at the goal from 20 yards out after a scramble down low to win the game.

"Julie has really stepped up in the last couple of games and made a big difference when we really needed it," said Assistant Coach Beth Guccione.

Southeast advances to the OVC tournament for post-season play against Eastern Illinois, University of Tennessee-Martin, and Tennessee Tech. Southeast will be hosting the tournament on November 8-10. Admission will be $3.00 for adults, $1.00 for 18 and under and free for students from participating schools with an ID.
