Jan. 9, 2008
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - After helping Southeast Missouri State soccer claim its second consecutive OVC championship and NCAA Tournament berth in 2007, sophomore forward Courtney Alexander (Liberty, MO/Liberty) and freshman midfielder Vanessa Hart (Dubbo, NSW Australia/Dubbo SC) were recently honored by Soccer Buzz Magazine after being named to the publication's All-Central Region teams. Alexander claimed Second Team All-Central accolades after a strong second year with the Redhawks that saw her produce nine goals and six assists last season en route to earning Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Year and First Team All-OVC honors. The second-year starter at forward recorded her second career hat trick on Oct. 19 at Murray State and tallied Southeast's first-ever goal in NCAA Tournament play on Nov. 16 against Missouri. Hart was named to the All-Central freshman team honors after recording a goal and an assist while starting all 17 contests in the central midfield during her first season with Southeast. She captured Second Team All-OVC and OVC All-Newcomer team honors in addition to being named to the OVC All-Tournament team in November. The Redhawks finished the 2007 season with a 12-2-4 record that included a perfect 9-0 mark in OVC play and a final ranking of 10th in the Central Region by Soccer Buzz, which is the highest regional in program history. |
