Head Soccer Coach Heather Nelson Announces Signing of Goalkeeper Rachel Harrington

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - (Tuesday, February 6 2006)  Senior goalkeeper Rachel Harrington of Skyview High School in Vancouver, Washington signed a national letter of intent on February 1, 2006 to play soccer at Southeast Missouri State University.  She is the daughter of Neal and Abbie Harrington.

 

In her junior year at Skyview High School, Harrington was a member of the varsity team that finished 10-3-3, taking second place in league.  After taking over in goal at the end of the season, she led Skyview to the district championship and in to the regional playoffs with 4 shutouts in 5 games, allowing only one goal against.  Harrington also earned 4 points on the field, with one goal and 2 assists.

 

Named the Most Versatile Player for her senior campaign, Harrington saw playing time at every position as Skyview finished 13-3-1 and, again, 2nd in league.  She recorded 3 shutouts in 4 games in goal, and added a goal and an assist for 3 points on the season.

 

In 2005, Harrington was a finalist in the San Diego Surf Cup while starting in goal for the Mustang Tri-Valley Roadrunners of Danville, California.  Competing against a nationally top-20 ranked teams, Harrington allowed only 4 goals in 4 games and anchored the Roadrunners defense as they advanced to the Surf Cup Championship game.

 

Harrington played in goal as a member of the Oregon 1988 age group ODP Team in 2004 and 2005.  She attended the Region IV Camp and Championships both years and is recognized as one of the top goalkeepers in Region IV.

 

Excelling academically, Harrington is a National Merit Achievement Semi-finalist and awaiting announcement of Finalists in mid-February 2006.  She has been awarded the Regents' scholarship with the possibility of earning a Governors' scholarship pending National Achievement Finalist selection.
