Nikki Edwards Named NSCAA Scholar All-Region Team Honorable Mention

By Patrick ClarkSoutheast Missouri State Sports Information KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Southeast Missouri State soccer player Nikki Edwards was an honorable mention selection to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Scholar All-Region Team on Wednesday. She was one of 14 Ohio Valley Conference soccer players selected to one of four regional teams based on academic and athletic achievements during the 2010 season. Edwards was selected to the All-South Region team. A junior from Calgary, Alberta, she had a cume grade point average of 3.65 after the fall semester in Business Management. She is a three-time member of the OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll and Southeast Scholar Athlete selection for her academic excellence. On the field, Edwards has made her mark as one of the top defenders in the OVC for her versatility and durability. She has started every game since her freshman campaign on the backline, a streak of 40-straight games. This past season, she ranked fifth on the team with 1,414 minutes logged on the field. She played 90 or more minutes in 13 games, including a season-high 110 minutes played vs. UT Martin on Oct. 24. For her career she has played 90 or minutes in 33 of her 40 games. This past season she was named to the OVC All-Tournament Team and finished the season with a career-best five shots including one on goal. To be nominated a student-athlete must have a 3.30 grade point average, start more than 50 percent of her games and be a significant contributor. |
