April 27, 2007

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri State head soccer coach Heather Nelson has announced the signing of Ellen Rehfus (Lemont, Ill.) to a National Letter of Intent to compete for the Redhawks starting this fall. She joins fellow signees Vanessa Hart (Dubbo, NSW Australia), Kristi Frick (Villa Ridge, Mo.), Shayna Kremer (Washington, Mo.) and Ashley Runion (St. Peters, Mo.) as freshmen for the upcoming 2007 season.

"Ellen is strong physically, a good passer and is good in the air. She is a dedicated to the game of soccer and is total team player," said Nelson.

Rehfus is currently attending Lemont High School in Lemont, Ill., and has competed on the Chicago Blast club team for coach Aleks Mihailovic, who is currently the United States Youth Soccer Association (USYSA) Director of Coaching for Region II. Rehfus was a two-year starter and letterwinner at Stanton College Prep in Jacksonville, Fla., in which she tallied nine points and six assists in her final season before her family relocated to Lemont.

She also won Most Valuable Player honors on Stanton's junior varsity team in 2003 and has been a member of the Florida Olympic Development Program. Rehfus has produced a 3.4 GPA in school and is an honor roll student at Lemont.
