Megan McGrath Voted OVC Defensive Soccer Player of the Week

Aug. 29, 2006

Cape Girardeau, Mo. - Southeast Missouri State sophomore Megan McGrath was named the Ohio Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week after scoring the only goal in a 1-0 season opening win over Arkansas-Little Rock.

"It is a big honor and I am really excited," McGrath said. "All of our defenders like to go forward on offense and I got a great pass and was able to score. It was great to get the opening win.

"I think we will have a chance to be a very good team," she said. "We have some really talented freshmen and overall our team is very fit."

The Redhawks, 1-0 on the season, will host Missouri State on Sunday, 2 p.m., at Houck Stadium. "We didn't play Missouri State last season, but in the past we have always had great matches," said Southeast coach Heather Nelson. "We will need another total team effort to win.

"I'm happy to see Megan named the Defensive Player of the Week. She had a flawless game on defense and came forward to get our only goal."
