Soccer Travels To DePaul Friday In First Road Contest Of 2006

Sept. 7, 2006

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri State soccer travels to Chicago for its first road test of the season on Friday against DePaul of the Big East Conference. The two teams will meet at Wish Field on the city's North Side with a 4 p.m. start time.

The Redhawks come into the Windy City with a record of 1-1, while the Blue Demons currently sport a 1-2-1 ledger, including a 1-1 tie against Eastern Illinois and a 2-1 overtime win over Loyola University Chicago last week.

"We're looking forward to playing DePaul because we have not played them before so that's why it's exciting to play a team for the first time," said Southeast head coach Heather Nelson. "I expect it to be a really good game on Friday. Eastern Illinois battled them in a close contest last week and I expect the same for us."

Southeast opened the 2006 season with a 1-0 win over UALR on Aug. 26 before dropping a 1-0 decision to in-state rival Missouri State on Sept. 3. Senior goalkeeper Lindsay Pickering (St. Charles, MO/St. Charles West) has played well early in the season after posting a season-high eight saves against the Bears.

After Friday's match, the Redhawks are back in action on Sunday, Sept. 10 against Troy for a 1 p.m. contest.
