Southeast vs. Drury (2-2)
September 11, 2001, 4:00 p.m.
Hutchens Field (1,200), Springfield, Mo.
All-Time Series: Drury leads 2-0.

About Southeast: Southeast completed its four-game home stand to open the season with a pair of victories this past weekend, shuting out both Arkansas-Little Rock and Central Arkansas at Houck Stadium.

On Friday, sophomore Erika Todd got the Otahkians on the board first with her second goal of the season. Later on, freshman Erin Slattery, last week's OVC Player of the Week, found the back on the net for her third goal of the season. Then in the 84th minute, senior Nichole Thiele scored her third goal of the season, extending her consecutive games with a goal streak to six. Senior goalkeeper Beth Guccione was again not tested, as she only had to make two saves in recording her third shutout of the season.

On Sunday, the Otahkians once again got off to a slow start, as SEMO did not score until the 41st minute of the first half. Sophomore Valerie Henderson scored her first goal of the season on a hard shot that was partially deflected by a UCA defender but not enough to prevent the goal. After only having a 1-0 lead at halftime, Southeast struck quickly in the second half, as freshman Marla Gianino scored her first goal of the regular season, a mere two minutes into the second period. Two minutes after that goal, Thiele scored, extending her streak to six consecutive games, one away from tying the school record she set two years ago. Gianino would add another goal later in the period to cap the scoring at 4-0 in favor of SEMO. Guccione once again made two saves, including one off a penalty kick, to record her fourth shutout and keep the Southeast defense perfect for another game.

The Drury contest on Tuesday will be the first road game of the year for Southeast. Last season, Drury scored two goals in the last 5:30 minutes of the game to shock the Otahkians for a 2-1 victory.
