Redhawks Soccer Opens Conference Play This Weekend.

Sept. 21, 2005

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - (Wednesday September 21, 2005) Southeast Missouri State hosts the Eastern Illinois Panthers Friday at 7:00 p.m. Going into conference play the Redhawks have a record of 4-2. Their only two losses were 1-0 shutouts to St. Louis University and the University of Evansville. Eastern Illinois has a record of 1-6 and have not won a game on the road yet. Last season Southeast lost to Eastern Illinois in 2-1 in overtime.

Sophomore Alaina Lacopo is leading the team with four goals and 11 points. This switch to a more offensive plan by coach Heather Nelson has worked so far as the Redhawks have outscored opponents 18-3 and out shot them 74-48. Another high point entering the conference schedule is the play of goalie Lindsay Pickering. She is only giving up a half a goal per game and has three shutouts in the Redhawks first six games.

On Sunday the Redhawks face the University of Memphis who has a 5-2 record on the season. Memphis beat Oral Roberts University the 23rd ranked team in the country and also defeated the University of Evansville 5-0.

Southeast takes on Eastern Illinois Friday night at 7:00 p.m. and will face the University of Memphis Sunday at 7:00 p.m. Both Games will be held at Houck Stadium.
