Southeast hits the road this weekend for Drake and Creighton

Sept. 24, 2002

CAPE GIRARDEAU - The Otahkians of Southeast Missouri State will travel to Drake University on Friday and then pack up and head to Creighton University to play on Sunday. Southeast is 6-2 this season, with five of the wins being shutouts.

Southeast is coming off an outstanding week after beating the University of Kentucky 2-1 and shutting out Oral Roberts by a score of 3-0. Freshman goalkeeper Lauren Fabbro had an unstoppable weekend with 13 saves and played just the second half of each game. Freshman Ashley DeRoy had her first colligate goal against UK and sophomore Erin Slattery was credited with the game-winning goal. Juniors Erika Todd and Jen Unrein and freshman Megan Hejlek all scored goals against Oral Roberts.

Drake is currently 4-3-1 after two wins this weekend against Valparaiso 2-0 and Loyola 2-1. They are undefeated at home, but the Otahkians will look to challenge that on Friday. Freshman forward Andrea Schmitz is their top scorer with five goals and three assists this season. She is followed by freshman Jessie Jandasek who has three goals and three assists. Jandasek scored both goals in the game against Valpo. Jennie Brown and Kendra Brown scored the goals in the Loyola game.

Creighton is currently 3-4-1 after a 1-1 tie in double overtime against Nebraska and a 2-0 loss against Nebraska-Omaha. Lulu Quigley leads the team with two goals and three assists, however many members of the team score goals spreading the stats across the board. They could prove to be a big threat to the Otahkians.

This is the last week of non-conference play for Southeast. The Otahks will face their first OVC team on October 4, when they play Eastern Illinois at home.
