Soccer Begins OVC Slate In Kentucky This Weekend

Sept. 28, 2007

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri State soccer opens their 2007 Ohio Valley Conference schedule in the state of Kentucky this weekend with a couple of matches beginning tonight at Morehead State with a start time of 6 p.m. The Redhawks then travel to Richmond, Ky., for a Sunday afternoon showdown at Eastern Kentucky with kickoff set for 1 p.m.

Southeast enters the weekend with a season record of 3-2-1 after concluding a stretch of playing four matches in a seven-day span two weeks ago. The Redhawks split their matches at the SLU Toys for Tots tournament with a 3-1 loss to host Saint Louis on Sept. 14 and a 2-0 victory over Air Force on Sept.16. Senior forward Alaina Lacopo (three goals, one assist) and sophomore forward Courtney Alexander (two goals, three assists) lead Southeast with seven points.

Morehead State brings a 1-5 record into tonight's contest with the Redhawks and is currently on a four-match losing skid. Last week, the Eagles dropped a pair of contests to in-state teams after falling on the road to Kentucky (1-0) and Western Kentucky (2-0). Senior forward Rebekah Kendall leads Morehead with two goals and junior goalkeeper Leslie King has recorded a team-best 38 saves.

Eastern Kentucky heads into the weekend with a 1-5-2 season mark and a three-match losing streak after losing a 6-2 decision at Western Kentucky on Sept. 21. The Colonels are led offensively by freshman forward Alex Hartwick's two goals, while freshman goalkeeper Stephanie Lynch has posted an OVC-leading 66 goals and three shutouts.

The Redhawks kick off the month of October with a three-match homestand next week starting with an OVC contest against Austin Peay on Oct. 5 with a 7 p.m. start time.
