Sept. 30, 2003 Cape Girardeau, Mo. - Southeast Missouri State Soccer junior forward Diana Poovey has been named the Ohio Valley Conference's Offensive Player of the Week for the week of September 30, as announced by the league office yesterday. Poovey led the team to a 5-0 crushing victory over Austin Peay last Tuesday at Houck Stadium. She put the team on the board first in the 12th minute with a 5-yard direct shot on goal, recording her second game-winning goal of the season. She didn't stop there, in the 51st minute Poovey attacked again with a 1-yard tap into the right corner of the goal off an assist from teammate Ashley DeRoy. She led the team in shots as well as she recorded 6 on the night. Poovey is currently tied with junior forward Erin Slattery for most goals on the season with 3. She is also tied with teammate Valerie Henderson for the most game-winning goals this season with 2, which ranks them both 2nd in OVC standings. With her two goals last week, Poovey moved into 5th place on Southeast's all-time scoring list, with 13 career goals. Diana Poovey and the Otahkians will be back in action this Friday, October 3 at Louisville at 6:00 pm for their final non-conference match-up. Their second OVC match-up will come this Sunday, October 5 at Morehead State at 1:00 pm. |
