Redhawks Gain Sweep Of OVC Soccer Weekly Awards

Oct. 2, 2007

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri State soccer was honored by the Ohio Valley Conference Tuesday afternoon as it accomplished another feat by becoming the first team to sweep all three weekly awards since the conference broke into three separate categories during the 2006 season.

Freshman forward Ashley Runion (St. Peters, MO/Ft. Zumwalt South) was named Offensive Player of the Week, junior defender Megan McGrath (Hawthorn Woods, IL/Carmel) garnered Defensive Player of the Week honors and senior Lindsay Pickering (St. Charles, MO/St. Charles West) earned the nod as Goalkeeper of the Week for their performances in Kentucky last weekend. It is the first conference honor for all three players and they join senior Alaina Lacopo (Troy, IL/Triad) as honorees this season.

Runion posted four goals and two assists last weekend, including her first collegiate hat trick at Eastern Kentucky, and leads Southeast with six goals and 15 points. McGrath led a Redhawk defensive unit that allowed only two goals and a .091 shooting percentage in addition to producing two goals against the Colonels.

Pickering notched three saves at Morehead State to open the conference's opening weekend and posted 10 saves two days later at Eastern Kentucky to earn her 23rd career shutout to become the OVC's all-time leader in that category.

The Redhawks kick off a three-match homestand at Houck Fieldhouse on Friday with an OVC contest against Austin Peay with a start time of 7 p.m.
