Ashley Runion Gains OVC Offensive Player of the Week Honor

Oct. 9, 2007

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri State freshman soccer player Ashley Runion (St. Peters, MO/Ft. Zumwalt South) was honored by the Ohio Valley Conference as its Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon. It is the second week in a row that Runion has won the award and the fifth time this season a Redhawk player has captured a weekly honor.

Runion posted a pair of game-winning goals in leading Southeast to a 2-0 record last weekend to begin their current three-match homestand. She opened the weekend with a goal in the 10th minute against Austin Peay on Oct. 5. Two days later, Runion scored on a header off a corner kick in the 13 th minute in a 3-0 win over Tennessee Tech.

The newcomer currently leads the Redhawks with eight goals and 19 points on the year, which is also tops among the OVC leaders. She also ranks 13th in the NCAA Division I with an average of 0.80 goals per game.

Southeast is back in action on Friday night at Houck Stadium as it concludes its homestand with a key Ohio Valley Conference battle against Eastern Illinois with kick off set for 7 p.m.
