Soccer Vies For A Top Seed In OVC Tournament

Oct. 20, 2005

Cape Girardeau, Mo. - The Southeast Missouri State University women's soccer team enters the final weekend of Ohio Valley Conference regular season competition looking for a top seed in the OVC post-season tournament.

The Redhawks, who play at Murray State on Friday and at Tennessee-Martin on Sunday, are 4-2-1 in OVC play to stand in fifth place, but only a game and a half out of first place.

Murray State is 5-2 in the OVC while Tennessee-Martin in 2-5. The match at Murray will begin at 3 p.m. on Friday while the match at Martin begins at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

"We just need to take care of business and get two wins and see where we stand," said Southeast coach Heather Nelson. "We have worked hard in practice this week with an emphasis on playing better team defense and just being more consistent overall."

The top six teams advance to the OVC tournament. The third and fourth seeds will host play-in games on Nov. 1 with the OVC semi-finals and finals at Eastern Illinois on Nov. 4 and Nov. 6. The finals will be televised by ESPN U.
