Soccer Closes Regular Season on Friday

Oct. 26, 2006

Cape Girardeau, Mo. - With an Ohio Valley Conference tournament play-in game looming on Tuesday night, the Southeast Missouri State soccer team will host Central Arkanas in a non-conference match on Friday, 7 p.m., at Houck Stadium.

"Playing well in a competitive game against a good opponent is the best preparation we could have for the play-in game," said Southeast coach Heather Nelson. "Central Arkansas is having a solid year and they are comparable to the top teams in the OVC."

Southeast is 7-7-2 on the season while Central Arkansas is 8-7-1. The Redhawks lead the series 1-0.

"We will be fine tuning our defense and working on finishing our scoring opportunities," Nelson said.

Friday night's game will be Senior Night with Redhawks seniors Caitlin Huber and Jessi Wuellner honored before the game.

The OVC tournament play-in game at Houck Stadium will be Tuesday, 7 p.m., against Austin Peay. The winner of the play-in game advances to the tourney semi-finals against league regular season champion Samford in Birmingham, Ala. Southeast lost to the Governors in overtime this season and played Samford to a 0-0 tie on Sunday in Birmingham.
