Southeast (14-1, 4-0 OVC) vs. Murray State (8-7-2, 2-2)
November 4, 2001, 2:00 p.m.
Houck Stadium (10,000), Cape Girardeau, Mo.
All-Time Series: Murray leads 1-0.

About Southeast: The Southeast Otahkian soccer team will look to complete a perfect conference season and a near-perfect overall regular season when they face the Murray State Racers on Sunday afternoon on Senior Day at Houck Stadium. Southeast will say goodbye to its three seniors, GK Melanie Hamilton, F Nichole Thiele and GK Beth Guccione. All three seniors will be honored in a ceremony before the game.

Last week, the Otahks got a big boost in defeating Creighton 2-1 in their first overtime game of the season. Southeast proved tough after allowing a late regulation goal and scored 3:03 into the extra frame on freshman Heather Reding's first goal of her collegiate career.

Southeast, which has already clinched the OVC Regular Season Title and the right to host next weekend's OVC Tournament, will have a tremendous advantage because of the way it has played at home recently. Southeast has won 11 straight games at Houck Stadium, all by shutout. In that 11-game stretch, Southeast has outscored its opponents 33-0.

The Otahkians have also gotten an outstanding performance out of senior GK Beth Guccione who ranks 5th in the country in goals allowed average (0.47). She has also recorded 11 shutouts. If she records at least two more shutouts this season she has a chance to rank #2 all-time in shutout percentage for a single season, trailing only a GK from soccer powerhouse North Carolina.

Freshman Marla Gianino broke the school record for assists in a season last week, recording assists on all four Otahkian goals. Gianino now has nine assists on the season and leads the Southeast team in scoring.

This weekend's opponent, Murray State, knows something about scoring. The Racers currently lead the OVC in scoring, 12 points ahead of second-place Southeast. Murray has had some impressive scoring games this year, scoring six goals in a game three times this season. The Racers have also played a OVC record six overtime games this season.

Last season in Muray's first year of soccer, the Racers shutout Southeast 2-0 in Murray. That defeat on October 3 was the last time Southeast failed to score a goal in a game. Southeast has since scored in the past 23 games since being shutout by MSU.
