Billy Underwood starts his first season as an assistant coach with the Southeast program after starting as a volunteer assistant coach at the beginning of the Fall season. Underwood will be in his first season as a coach, but has lots of previous playing experience that will help him out on the field.

Underwood played high school baseball at Notre Dame Academy in Cape Girardeau. At Notre Dame he was the team MVP and leading hitter for two years, including a .450 average his senior year while playing outfield and shortstop. He also holds the distinction of stealing eight bases in a single game. Underwood also played Legion baseball and his team finished second in the state during his senior year.

Following high school, Underwood played at Shawnee Junior College and semi-professional ball on a Murphysboro (Ill.) team before elbow and shoulder surgery ended his playing days.

Underwood is finishing his undergraduate degree in sports management at Southeast Missouri State and will graduate in May.

His main responsibilities with the Otahkians include infielders and outfielders and hitting.
