Southeast Drops Two to Evansville

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - The Southeast Missouri State University Softball team (1-3) fought the cold today to play Evansville (7-2). The Otahkians lost the doubleheader in Evansville, Ind.

Scoring action started in the first for Evansville. Winters started off inning with a walk. Pebler grounded and Southeast gave up an error resulting in unearned runs by Winters and Davison. The inning ended with three left on base.

Southeast came into the fourth ready to score. Sophomore Kelly Birk smacked a doubled right away. Senior Katy Cernecka popped one up to second followed by a strike out by Coode. Senior Kemi Rampi doubled bringing in Kelly Birk, the only score Southeast would be able to make. Evansville still wasn't finished and scored once more in the sixth, bringing the first game to a finish at 3-1.

In game two Southeast was unable to get a score on the board. Evansville started strong again in the first scoring two runs. The Purple Aces were real strong in the fourth earning three runs after the Otahkians gave two errors. Evansville sealed the score after one more run in the fifth bringing the second loss of the day to Southeast with a score of 6-0.

Southeast will be home this weekend playing host to the Southeast Softball Classic. Drake, Lipscomb, Middle Tennessee, Siena, and Southwest Missouri will all join Southeast at the Southeast Softball Complex on March 7-9.
