Softball Splits With Tennessee State on Friday Lady Tigers win first ever game against Otahkians in 25 attempts in game one.
March 29, 2002 NASHVILLE, Tenn.- It had to happen eventually. Tennessee State was able to beat the Southeast Missouri State Otahkian softball time for the first time in 25 games, by besting the Otahkians 7-6 in extra innings of game one of a doubleheader on Friday. Southeast fought back though and picked up their first OVC victory of the season in game two. TSU (7-14, 1-3 OVC) freshman Tarah Evanisko singled in the game winning run in game one with two outs in the ninth inning, the second extra stanza of the game to best Southeast Missouri (4-14, 1-3 OVC) 7-6. In game two, Southeast knocked out a season-high 20 hits and scored 15 runs, including seven in the second inning, to gain a split of the doubleheader. After getting the loss in game one, freshman pitcher Kelly Birk (1-6) picked up her first collegiate victory in game two for Southeast. The two teams will square off in the rubber match of the three-game series on Monday at 3:00 p.m. in Cape Girardeau. |
