Otahkians Let Tigers Slip One By

March 30, 2003

Box Score

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - The Southeast Missouri State softball team (6-15, 2-1) was defeated today by Tennessee State (6-19, 3-5) in the last game of a three game series. The Tigers ruled the game but the Otahkians gave it their all in the end, but still lost 10-4.

It was a beautiful, slightly chilly day today for the Otahkians and the Tigers, however the errors were ugly. The two teams posted a total of 10 errors in the two and a half hour game and of the 14 runs only five were earned. The Tigers led off the game strong scoring three runs in the first inning and trying to intimidate the Otahkians with five runs in the sixth. Only two of the runs were earned.

It was 10-0 after the top of the sixth and Southeast was up to bat. They gave an incredible effort scoring all four runs in one inning. Three of the four runs were earned. Senior Katie Cerneka batted first knocking a double to right field. Junior Amy Murphy walked followed by a strike out by a fellow Otahkian. Senior Brooke Nett steped up and hit a triple to right center bringing in Cerneka and Murphy. Junior Marie Coode reached first on an error while Nett scored run number three for Southeast. The final score for Southeast came when Coode score on an error by the catcher.

The Otahkians will be home again April 2 at 3 p.m. at the Southeast Softball Complex. They will play host to the Missouri Tigers.
