Southeast Softball Splits Doubleheader with Tennessee Tech
April 12, 2003 CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - The Southeast Missouri State softball team (9-20, 5-4) split their doubleheader today with Tennessee Tech (25-11, 8-2). The third and final game will be tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. at the Tech Softball Field. The Otahkians accumulated four runs, seven hits, four RBI, and 21 putouts in the first game today defeating the Golden Eagles 4-2. Junior Jessica Hunter pitched four innings taking the win improving her record to 4-5. Sophomore Kelly Birk was credited with the save after pitching 3 innings. Birk also contributed as the designated player tallying two hits and three RBI. Senior Brooke Nett had one hit, one run, and one RBI and Alicia Loucks had two hits and one run. In the second game Tech edged Southeast 4-3. Lori Bayless went all nine innings striking out seven Otahkians. Southeast armored with four pitchers throughout the game, unfortunately it was not enough to stop the Golden Eagles. Nett assisted with a homerun and two RBI. Total between the two games Nett had two hits, a double and a homerun, two runs, and three RBI. The Otahkians will be at Springfield, Mo. this Wednesday as they avenge the Southwest Missouri State Bears. The doubleheader will begin at 2:00 p.m. at the SMS Softball Field. |
