Southeast Softball Drops One to Tennessee Tech

CAPE GIRARDEAU,Mo. - The Southeast Missouri State softball team (9-21, 5-5) dropped their game today to Tennessee Tech (26-11, 9-2). This was their final game in the three game series this weekend.

The Otahkians managed nine hits, three runs, and 18 putouts but it was not enough to overtake the Golden Eagles. The Eagles had scored all seven of their runs by the end of the third inning while Southeast hadn't scored any. In the top of the fourth however the Otahkians came alive. Junior Alana Bagby-Leonard reached first and then advanced to second on a wild pitch. A single by junior Amy Murphy advanced Bagby-Leonard to third. After senior Kemi Rampi walked junior Jamie Birk singled bringing in Bagby-Leonard for the first run for Southeast. Senior Katie Cerneka singled to right field bringing in Rampi and Murphy.

Jamie Birk had two hits for Southeast bringing in one run while Murphy had two hits and one run. Junior Jessica Hunter took the pitching loss today after pitching 1.2 innings. Lori Bayless of Tech won with Brenning taking the save.

The Otahkians will be at Springfield, Mo. this Wednesday as they avenge the Southwest Missouri State Bears. The doubleheader will begin at 2:00 p.m. at the SMS Softball Field.
