Rain Cancels Second Game for Southeast Softball

April 16, 2003

Box Score

CAPE GIRARDEAU,Mo. - The Southeast Missouri State softball team (9-22, 5-5) lost to the SMS bears (19-19, 7-9) today during the first game of the doubleheader. The second game was cancelled due to rain in Springfield, Mo.

The Otahkians had an off day at the SMS softball field during the game today. The Otahks were only able to get two hits off SMS pitcher Buslepp who pitched all five innings before they took advantage of the eight-run rule. Sophomore Kelly Birk and junior Alana Bagby-Leonard managed to get a hit off Buslepp but no runs could be scored by Southeast.

Freshman Lyndsey Webb and Bagby-Leonard had a combined eight putouts for the team. This was not enough to put a stop to the Bears as they had managed 12 hits and eight runs in the five innings. Birk pitched four of the innings for Southeast taking the loss. Junior Jessica Hunter came in the fifth inning but was unable to save the game for Southeast.

The Otahkians will be back home this weekend to play host to Morehead State in a three-game series. The doubleheader on Friday will begin at 1:00 p.m. and the single game on Saturday will begin at 12:00 p.m. at the Southeast Softball Complex.
