Southeast Softball Gives One Up to Morehead State

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - The Southeast Missouri State softball team (11-23, 7-6) lost today to Morehead State (7-26, 4-7), 7-4. The Otahkians won two of the three games in the series this weekend.

The Otahkians started the first half of the game strong stealing their way into the lead. It began when junior Stacey DeClue stole second. During the same play Marie Coode stole home and left third wide open for DeClue to steal, which she did. In the third inning powerhouse, Alana Bagby-Leonard knocked her second home run of the series and credited with 2 RBI.

The Eagles fought back in the fourth bringing in two runs. Southeast answered back with one more home run, this time by sophomore Kelly Birk. Southeast led 4-2. Top of the fifth Morehead got it together and scored four runs. Southeast was not able to put anymore runs on the board but the Eagles tacked on one more run in the seventh bringing the score to 7-4.

Birk and Bagby-Leonard both had one hit which were home runs. Bagby-Leonard was credited with two RBI. DeClue, Coode, senior Alicia Loucks, senior Brooke Nett, and freshman Chrissy Bodine were all successful in stealing bases today.

The Otahkians will remain home next week as they host Eastern Illinois on Wednesday, April 23 for Support the Troops Day. The game will begin at 3:00 p.m. at the Southeast Softball Complex.
