Last Home Softball Game Turned Soggy
April 29, 2003
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - The Southeast Missouri State softball team (14-25, 10-7) was able to get one game in against Saint Louis (21-15) before the rain came through. The Billikens won the first game 4-2 and the second game was cancelled in the middle of the first inning due to lightening and rain. The game started off with a special honor to senior Brooke Nett. Nett was named 2003 Howard's MVP for softball this season. Nett is a four-year starter and currently broke the school recorder for the number of softball games started. She has also been named to the All-Conference Second Team two years and named to All-Tournament team one year. Today was also Nett's 22nd birthday yet she gave the Otahkians a gift, a home run. The Billikens were able to put up two runs in the top of the third. The Otahkians tried to keep pace as sophomore Kelly Birk singled bringing in senior Kemi Rampi. The Billikens put up two more runs in the fourth. Southeast was only able to score one more run in the fifth when Nett hit her third home run of the season. Nicole Bohnenstiehl pitched all seven innings for Saint Louis taking the win and improving her record to 18-9. Junior Jessica Hunter took the pitching loss for Southeast after pitching 3 innings. This weekend the Otahkians will be in Richmond, Ky. for a three game series against Eastern Kentucky. There will be a doubleheader on Saturday and a single on Sunday with the first pitches thrown at 12 p.m. both days. |
