Softball Splits with EKU
May 3, 2003 CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - The Southeast Missouri State softball team (15-26, 11-8) split a doubleheader today with Eastern Kentucky (26-16, 12-7). Southeast will need the win tomorrow in order to get the second seed in the OVC Tournament. Southeast was strong in the first game winning 4-0. The Otahkians scored three of the runs in the first inning. Junior Alana Bagby-Leonard hit homerun bringing in senior Brooke Nett and freshman Kate Groden. The Otahkians got their last run in the top of the fourth with another home run by Bagby-Leonard. Junior Jessica Hunter was the winning pitcher after four innings. Her record improved to 6-9. Jonelle Csora took the loss for EKU after pitching all seven innings. Despite a strong first game Southeast had troubles in the second game and lost 4-1. Southeast was down 4-0 going into the sixth inning when they got their only run of the game. The bases were loaded and they walked Bagby-Leonard bringing in Lyndsey Webb. Sophomore Kelly Birk was the losing pitcher after pitching four innings. Jessica Soto, of EKU, was the winning pitcher after six innings improving her record to 7-7. The Otahkians will have one more game tomorrow against EKU. Then the Otahkians will head to the OVC Tournament starting May 8, in Cookville, Tenn. |
