5/9/09 The magical run of the Redhawks softball team came to end in the Championship round of the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament at University Field on the campus of Jacksonville State on Saturday afternoon. The Redhawks had two chances to win their first OVC Title since 1999 but squandered a lead against Tennessee Martin in their first game before falling 3-2 in extra innings. That forced a second game against the Skyhawks that they ultimately lost 4-1 giving the No. 4 seed Skyhawks the title and the automatic NCAA Regional berth.
5/8/09 One more win. That's all the Redhawks softball team needs to win their sixth Ohio Valley Conference Tournament Championship and first since the 1999 season. A 7-1 victory over Tennessee Tech on Saturday afternoon at University Field moved the Redhawks into their first OVC Tournament Championship game since falling to Middle Tennessee State in the 2000 championship game.
5/7/09 Carmen Fowler dug into the batter's box in the bottom of the seventh inning. With two outs and the winning run on second base, Fowler drilled an Alex Gjevre pitch to left field to plate pinch runner Sirena Watkins for the walk-off, winning run. The run gave the No. 2 seed Redhawks a 1-0 win over No. 3 seed Morehead State in the quarterfinals of the Ohio Valley Conference Softball Tournament at University Field on the campus of host school Jacksonville State on Thursday afternoon.
