Otahkian Softball to Challenge Evansville in a Doubleheader

March 4, 2003

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast will be traveling to Evansville, Ind. to take on the University of Evansville Wednesday, March 5. The Otahkians will begin their two-game challenge against the Purple Aces at 4 p.m. at Cooper Stadium.

Southeast will be anxious for another game this season after having one tournament cancelled already due to poor weather. The Otahkians will look to great defensive depth to earn them a victory tomorrow. With a 20-member team, coach Lana Richmond has at least two players for each position. This makes for a competitive season for playing time. Richmond is given lots of options and ensures that no one gets comfortable in their positions.

Evansville is off to a good start with a 6-2 record. They have also had several games cancelled due to poor weather but managed to take advantage of all they could. Brooke Lucker is their leading batter with an average of .440. Kellie Pebler leads the Purple Aces in scoring with 5 runs. Pitcher Casey Clutch is leading in E.R.A. with an average of 1.40.

The Otahkians will play host to the Southeast Classic Tournament this weekend March 7-9. Drake, Lipscomb, Middle Tennessee, Siena, and Southwest will all be joining Southeast on the fields.
