Otahkians Seek to Sleigh the Salukis

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - The Southeast Missouri State softball team (4-12) will play host to Southern Illinois University (16-4) today. The doubleheader will begin at 4 p.m. at the Southeast Softball Complex.

The Otahkians have played only five home games so far this season. Junior college transfer, Alana Bagby-Leonard leads the Southeast offense batting .326. Bagby-Leonard has had 15 hits including a homer, four runs, and 8 RBI. Junior Amy Murphy has contributed immensely to the team with 16 hits, nine runs and five RBI. Junior Jessica Hunter is leading Southeast pitching a 3.72 era with 29 innings pitched and allowing 18 runs.

The Salukis are 16-4 for the season. They are ranked as one of the top teams in the Missouri Valley Conference this season. Sophomore Amy Harre was 3-0 last week with a 0.00 era against Indiana State pitching 12.1 innings. Freshman Katie Louis led the Salukis by hitting .444 including two homeruns and four RBI.

The Otahkians will close the week by playing host to Tennessee State for a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m. and one game on Sunday 1 p.m. at the Southeast Softball Complex. This will mark the beginning of the conference season for the Otahks.
