Amber Peterson Wins OVC Player of the Week Accolades

April 2, 2007

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri State sophomore catcher Amber Peterson (Camarillo, Calif./Oaks Christian) was selected as the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week, the conference announced this afternoon.

This is Peterson's first weekly accolade and she is the first Redhawk player to win the honor since last season when Michelle Summers twice captured the award (March 13 & 27, 2006).

Peterson led Southeast with a .500 batting average and a 1.000 slugging percentage as it posted a 2-3 record last week. She posted a perfect 2-for-2 effort with a home run and two RBI in the second game at Evansville last Wednesday. In the first game of last weekend's OVC home series against Eastern Kentucky, Peterson hit 2-for-3 with a homer and drove in two runs.

Peterson holds the second-best active hitting streak in the OVC at six games, while batting .268 on the year with three homers and nine RBI.

The Redhawks (10-17) return to action tomorrow afternoon with a non-conference doubleheader against No. 18 Southern Illinois at the Southeast Softball Complex with a start time of 3 p.m.
