Southeast (5-16, 2-4 OVC) vs. Austin Peay (12-22-1, 1-4-1 OVC)
April 6, 2002, 1:00 p.m. (DH)
April 7, 2002, 1:00 p.m.
Cape Girardeau, Mo. - Southeast Complex (600)
All-Time Series: Southeast leads 37-5.

About Southeast: After a doubleheader loss to Missouri on Wednesday, Southeast will be looking to improve its fortunes when they host Austin Peay for an important OVC matchup this weekend.

The Otahkians will also look to enact a little revenge, after the Lady Govs upset them last season in the regular season finale and cost Southeast a share of the OVC Regular Season crown. Southeast had won 30 straight games over APSU, before losing that game 1-0 in Clarksville on May 1, 2001.

On Wednesday, the Otahkian ran in an offensive buzzsaw when the Missouri Tigers scored 22 runs in the two games. Southeast managed two early runs in game one to pull within one run, but were unable to score the rest of the day and lost both games by the mercy run rule in five innings. Junior 2B Brooke Nett had a good day at the plate, going 3-5 with two RBI's. She increased her season batting average to .316, which now leads the team.

Senior SS Dawn Piantino is second on the team in batting with a .308 average and ranks in the Top 10 in an amazing 10 different OVC statistical categories.

Austin Peay enters this weekend, having lost four of their last six games. Last weekend they also had a rare tie against Morehead State, due to lightning that called the game after nine innings and the scored tied at 4-4. On the season, the Lady Govs have already won 12 games, after winning only 13 a season ago.

APSU's top offensive threats are senior utility player Misty Claude and junior SS/OF Jenny Kelley. Kelley leads the team in hits (17), runs (15), doubles (11), and triples (3) while Claude leads the Lady Govs team in batting (.333), homeruns (5) and RBI's (14).

The weekend series starts a string of eight total games in an eight-day period for the Otahkians that concludes with a three-game series with defending OVC Champions, Tennessee Tech.

All About the Opposition: Austin Peay (12-22-1, 1-4-1)

Austin Peay owns a one-game winning streak over Southeast Missouri after defeating the Otahkians 1-0 in the regular season finale in Clarksville last season. The loss cost Southeast a share of the OVC Regular Season Crown and ended a 30 game losing streak to Southeast for APSU.

This season, APSU's top offensive threats are senior utility player Misty Claude and junior SS/OF Jenny Kelley. Kelley leads the team in hits (17), runs (15), doubles (11), and triples (3) while Claude leads the Lady Govs team in batting (.333), homeruns (5) and RBI's (14).

On the mound, freshman Lydia Money has been the ace for APSU. She has an 8-9 record and 2.24 E.R.A. in 21 appearances. She has two shutouts on the season in 100 innings pitched and leads the team with 84 strikeouts.

The Lady Govs have played some tough competition this year, competiting at the Auburn Invitational, the Mercer Holiday Inn Classic and the Rebel Games in Orlando. As for non-OVC opponents, AP and SEMO share one common opponent, as APSU split a doubleheader with Indiana State on February 16 7-6 and 1-2. Southeast defeated ISU in Cape Girardeau earlier this season for their first victory of the season.

Southeast does lead the all-time series 37-5 and has won 30 of the past 31 games in the series.
