Amy Fahnestock Named OVC Pitcher of the Week

April 4, 2005

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - (Monday, April 04, 2005) Southeast Missouri State starting pitcher Amy Fahnestock (Ste. Genevieve, MO/Wabash CC) was named the Ohio Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week for her performance last week for the Redhawks softball team. She is the first Redhawks player to be awarded the honor this season.

Fahnestock compiled a record of 2-1 in three appearances, all starts, with an earned run average (ERA) of 0.38 in 18.1 innings pitched. She struckout eight batters and allowed only four runs, including only one earned run. She held all batters she faced to a .224 batting average allowing only one extra base hit all week. All three of her appearances were complete games, including a complete game shutout.

In her first start of the week she pitched 7.1 innings in 3-2 loss against Evansville. Allowed three runs (none earned) on nine hits.

In opening game against Tennessee State allowed one run on two hits and struckout four in complete game victory.

In series finale recorded her sixth-straight complete game when she recorded her fourth shutout of the season allowing only four hits and striking out four. It was her team-leading 11th complete game and her team-high 10th win of the season.

For the season she is 10-5 with a 1.93 ERA. She has appeared in 20 of the Redhawks 29 games this season.

She leads the OVC in shutouts and ranks among the top three in the conference in wins, innings pitched, appearances, games started and complete games.

Since the start of OVC play she is 4-1 and has helped the Redhawks win 16 games, matching the amount of wins the team won all of last season.

She's also second on the team with three homeruns.

Fahnestock will face regional rival Southern Illinois University on Wednesday, April 6 as the Redhawks host the highly-regarded Salukis for a doubleheader at the Southeast Softball Complex. First pitch is slated for 3:00 p.m.
