Michelle Summers Named OVC Softball Co-Player of the Week

April 23, 2007

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri State junior third baseman Michelle Summers (Glendale, Calif./Hoover) was named the Ohio Valley Conference Co-Player of the Week sharing the award with Tennessee Tech's Beth Boden, the conference announced this afternoon. It marked the third time that Summers has won the weekly award since the 2006 season.

Summers batted .500 and posted a 1.056 slugging percentage in helping the Redhawks tally a 4-1 record last week. She went 4-for-6 at the plate in a midweek home doubleheader against Saint Louis, including a 2-for-3 effort with a double, a home run and three RBI. Summers hit a two-run homer in the second game of an OVC weekend series at Tennessee-Martin before going 3-for-4 in the series finale against the Skyhawks with a double and a triple.

Summers ranks second on the team in several categories, including hitting (.339), doubles (five), home runs (nine) and RBI (23).

The Redhawks welcome Memphis to the Southeast Softball Complex for their final non-conference doubleheader of the year tomorrow afternoon with a start time of 3 p.m.
