Elaine Fisher Named OVC Pitcher of the Week
May 9, 2005 CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - (Monday, May 9, 2005) Southeast Missouri State freshman starting pitcher Elaine Fisher (St. Peters, MO/Francis Howell North) was named the Ohio Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week for her performance last week for the Redhawks softball team. She is the second Redhawks player to be awarded the honor this season and third to receive a weekly award. Fisher compiled a record of 2-0 in three appearances, starting two games, with an earned run average (ERA) of 0.00 in 16.0 innings pitched. She struckout 12 batters and allowed only two runs, both of which were unearned. She held all batters she faced to a .172 batting average allowing only ten hits, none of which were for extra bases. She did not issue a single walk last week and extended her consecutive innings pitched without issuing a walk to 37 innings. In both of her starts last week went the distance for back-to-back complete games. Her third and fourth complete games of the season. In her second start recorded her third shutout of the season. In 3-1 win over Eastern Illinois she went the distance allowing only one run (unearned) on four hits and struckout six. In the second game of a doubleheader against Austin she allowed only three hits while striking out five in 4-0 win. The win clinched an OVC Tournament berth for the Redhawks. In series finale she came on for two innings of relief in 4-2 loss to Lady Govs. Allowed one unearned run on three hits while striking out a batter. For the season she is 7-5 with a team-leading 1.32 ERA. She has pitched in 84.2 innings striking out 48 batters. In OVC play she has dominated, going 5-2 with an ERA of 0.38. In 56 innings she has struckout 35 batters and allowed only three earned runs. She has only issued seven walks this season. The last time she walked a batter was on April 16 against Samford when she walked two Bulldogs. Those two walks are the only bases on balls that Fisher has issued in OVC play.
She leads the OVC in ERA in OVC play and overall play. Teammate Amy Fahnestock (Ste. Genevieve, MO/Wabash CC) was named Pitcher of the Week on April 4 and fellow freshman Megan McDonald (Cape Girardeau, MO/Cape Central) was named OVC Player of the Week on April 11. Fisher and the No. 5 seeded Redhawks softball team will travel to Jacksonville, Alabama to face No. 4 seed Tennessee-Martin in the opening game of the 2005 O'Reilly Ohio Valley Conference Softball Championship Tournament on Thursday, May 12 at 10:00 a.m. |
