Southeast Softball Signs Two Junior College Players
June 10, 2003 Cape Girardeau, Mo. - Southeast Missouri State University softball coach Lana Richmond has announced that two junior college players have signed national letters of intent to attend Southeast in the fall. Amy Fahnestock of Ste Genevieve, Mo., signed after an outstanding season at Wabash Community College in Mt. Carmel, Ill. Fahnestock was 18-4 and named the MVP of the Great Rivers Athletic Conference and NJCAA Region 24. She was also Freshman of the Year in the conference after leading Wabash Valley to a record of 41-9. "I am excited to have Amy in our program," Richmond said. "She will be able to step in and contribute immediately. Amy is a powerful pitcher who throws in the mid 60's with a variety of pitches. She can give us a lot of innings and can also contribute with her bat." Also signing was Victoria Torrez, an infielder from Cypress Junior College in Cypress, Calif. She was All-Orange County Empire Conference after establishing a new school and conference record with 72 runs batted in. Torrez batted .375. "Victoria will enhance our infield defense at third base," Richmond said. "Her bat will be a welcome addition to our lineup. Victoria is a terrific contact hitter who can also hit for power." |
