Georgia Softball Standout Signs With Redhawks

June 25, 2007

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri State softball has announced the recent signing of infielder/outfielder Carmen Fowler to a National Letter of Intent in which she will begin competing for the Redhawks in the 2007-08 school year, according to head coach Lana Richmond.

A native of Buford, Ga., Fowler helped Collins Hill High School claim to a pair of regional crowns in addition to a Georgia 5-A state crown in 2006 and a state runner-up finish this past spring. She earned All-County and All-Region accolades on the diamond and currently plays for the Georgia Elite ASA Gold summer traveling team. Fowler also helped the Collins Hill girls' basketball team capture a pair of state titles and a national high school championship in 2006-07.

"Carmen has good range at the middle infield positions and possesses one of the best arms in the game. She is very athletic and can play the outfield as well and has the ability to contribute right away in her freshman year," Richmond stated. "Carmen plays for a very competitive ASA Gold team in Georgia Elite and has faced collegiate-type pitchers all summer. Her overall play will make her ready for Division I competition this fall."

In addition to her athletic accomplishments, Fowler graduated from Collins Hill this past spring as an honors student.

"She is also a great student bringing in very high academic credentials to Southeast. I am very pleased to have signed such a quality person and athlete in Carmen Fowler".

Fowler joins fellow signees Allie Borowiak, Whitney Dupuis and Leigh Leonard as newcomers for the Redhawks in 2008.
