Softball Releases 2004 Schedule

2004 Softball Schedule

Cape Girardeau, Mo. (September 24, 2003) -Lana Richmond, head softball coach, has announced the 2004 softball schedule featuring 16 home games and the Southeast Missouri Classic.

The Otahkians finished their 2003 campaign 18-29 overall due in-part to their tough non-conference schedule. The team will once again face some tough competition to prepare them for conference play.

Southeast will kick-off their season at the Western Kentucky Tournament during the first weekend of March. This weekend long tournament will feature Western Kentucky, Illinois State, Belmont, and Southeast. It will be a round-robin format where the team with the best record takes home the championship.

The next weekend, March 12-14, Southeast will open at home with another round-robin tournament, as they host their annual Southeast Missouri Classic. This year's field proves to be loaded with tough competition as it headlines Bradley, Indiana State, Iowa State, and in-state rival Southwest Missouri State University

Over Spring Break the team will travel to Kissimmee, Fla. to participate in the Rebel Spring Games amongst a wealth of teams. The Rebel Spring Games is a unique one-month spring break program in which collegiate softball teams from around the nation enter to play during the week of their break. Last year the tournament attracted 179 collegiate teams. This week- long tourney will give Southeast tons of playing experience, as they will see some new faces in competition.

Other non-conference games include road double-headers against Belmont, SIU-Carbondale, and St. Louis University. Southeast will host Evansville for their only home non-conference double-header.

During the month of April Southeast will have a concentrated conference schedule, opening up at home April 1 versus Eastern Illinois. Conference play will also highlight two newcomers this season as Jacksonville State and Samford both joined the Ohio Valley Conference earlier this year.
