CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO. – (Thursday, September 25, 2008) – The Redhawks softball team begins their quest for their sixth Ohio Valley Conference championship in their history this Friday at Charlotte West Stadium with a doubleheader against rival Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. First pitch is set for 5:15 p.m. for their fall exhibition season opener. The second game will start at approximately 7:15 p.m.

The doubleheader against the Salukis is just two of the scheduled eight exhibition games the Redhawks will play during the fall semester in preparation of the 2009 spring season. On Sunday the Redhawks will travel up I-55 to face Saint Louis University for a twinbill at the Billikens Sports Center. Gametimes for those games are 2:00 and 4:00.

The following Saturday, October 4 the Redhawks will travel to Dupo, Illinois to face Missouri State and the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC). The Redhawks will face the bears at 3:30 and the Kangeroos at 5:30.

The Redhawks conclude their fall season at home at the Southeast Softball Complex on Sunday, October 12 with a doubleheader against Meramec Junior College. Start times for those games are set at 2:00 and 4:00 p.m.

This year’s team features 10 newcomers and eight returning letter winners including five starters from a year ago. Head Coach Lana Richmond begins her 27th year at the helm of one of the most winningest programs in the NCAA.

Admission is free for all eight games on the fall schedule.
