Softball charity tournament is a soggy success
Oct. 10, 2002 CAPE GIRARDEAU - Over $1000.00 was raised at the All Missouri Fall Charity Classic for cancer. Southeast was host to all of the NCAA Division I schools in Missouri for the "Strike out for Cancer" Softball Tournament on October 5 and 6. All funds raised during the annual fall tournament will be donated to Saint Francis Medical Center for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Southeast Softball Coach Lana Richmond credits her staff and the community for making the tournament a success. "Our staff prepared and worked diligently to make the tournament a success," said Richmond. "I contribute the achievement of our $1000 goal to our staff and those in attendance for giving pledges and donations. I am especially proud of the success due to the fact that the tournament was incomplete due to rain." The tournament included Southeast Missouri State as the host team and teams from the University of Missouri, UMKC, St. Louis University, and Southwest Missouri State University. The tournament was incomplete because of rain on Sunday, therefore no tournament champ was named and the traveling trophy was returned to 2001 champion the University of Missouri.
