Southeast Drops Season Opener to Bradley 7-0

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - For the fourth consecutive season, the Redhawks lost their season-opening match by a score of 7-0. This year the loss came against Bradley University, as they extended their winning streak to three matches. The Braves are now 5-1 on the year.

Starting off the day in singles competition, senior Julia Masotti competed in the closest match of the day, but eventually came up short 7-6, 6-3 to Nicole Miller in the No. 1 spot. In the next three matches, the Redhawks were unable to win any games as Elise Nattier, Kara True, and Erika Seabaugh all fell by scores of 6-0, 6-0 to Veronika Wojakowska, Emily Regenold, and Jessica Buterbaugh in the No. 2 through 4 slots respectively. Valentina Emiliani-Segrera closed out the No. 5 singles match with a 6-1, 6-0 loss to Erin Krubeck. The No. 6 singles match was not played.

In doubles, Masotti and Nattier made up the No. 1 tandem, which fell to Miller and Regenold by a margin of 8-5. Following in No. 2 and 3 doubles, Seabaugh and True dropped their match to Wojakowska and Buterbaugh, just as Pettigrew and Emiliani-Segrera did to Braun and Krubeck by a score of 8-0.

Southeast will be off for the next two weeks until March 7 when they will take on the Memphis Tigers in Memphis, Tenn. at 11 a.m.
