Redhawks Tennis Falls to Lady Tigers, 7-0

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Southeast Missouri State tennis team fell to the Memphis Lady Tigers Saturday by a score of 7-0. With the loss, the Redhawks fall to 0-2 on the season, while the Lady Tigers improve to 8-7 overall.

Starting off the day in doubles action, Southeast was only able to capture one game in all three matches. In No. 1 doubles, Julia Masotti and Elise Nattier dropped the match to Ashley Murdock and Marjorie Ondeck by a margin of 8-0. Following in No. 2 play, Kara True and Erika Seabaugh suffered the same outcome against their opponents, Amanda Brown and Sarah Irvin. Finally in No. 3 competition, Sarah Pettigrew and Valentina Emiliani won a sole game before falling to Kristin Chamberlain and Dara Toulch, 8-1.

Continuing in singles, Masotti went down to Murdock 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 1 position. In the No. 2 spot, Nattier came closer to the victory, but still came up short 6-2, 6-1 to Ondeck. The rest of the day, the Redhawks were unable to pull out any wins in No. 3 through 6 singles as True, Seabaugh, Pettigrew, and Emiliani all lost in straight sets 6-0, 6-0.

Southeast will return to action tomorrow morning in Jacksonville, Ala. They will look for their first victory of the season against the Gamecocks of Jacksonville State University at 10 a.m.
