CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - The Southeast tennis team lost their first Ohio Valley Conference match of the season Monday afternoon to Murray State by a score of 4-3. The Redhawks are now 2-5 overall and 1-1 in OVC play, while the Racers improved to 6-3 on the year and 1-0 in OVC competition.

In singles, senior Bryce Kristal defeated her opponent, Angela McGahee, 7-5, 6-4 in No. 1 action. In No. 2 play, senior Drew Kristal fought with her opponent, Anne Pennington, to three sets, while coming out on top by scores of 6-4, 4-6, 6-2. Junior Julia Masotti also battled with her opponent to three sets, but was unable to come up with the win after going down to Lynsey Bochenek 6-3, 4-6, 6-7 in the No. 3 spot. Sophomore Alyce Kelly gave the Redhawks their third win in singles by shutting down Alexis Webb by identical scores of 6-2 in the No. 4 slot.

Continuing with No. 5 competition, sophomore Elise Nattier was defeated by Lyndsay Ottosen 6-3, 6-1. Closing out singles play in the No. 6 match, freshman Taylor Orahood couldn't capture the win as she fell to Adriana Alvarez by scores of 6-0 and 6-1.

In doubles play, the Redhawks lost all three of their matches to the Racers. The No. 1 team of Bryce and Drew Kristal came up short to McGahee/Pennington by a score of 8-6. The No. 2 tandem of Masotti and Kelly also battled with their opponents, Ottosen/Webb, to the end but eventually claimed a 9-7 victory. Finishing up the lineup, Nattier and Orahood were defeated by Bochenek and Fulcher in No. 3 action 8-0.

Southeast will continue OVC play as they travel to Nashville, Tenn. to compete with Tennessee State at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Following that match, they will go up against Memphis on Thursday at 11 a.m. in Memphis, Tenn. The Redhawks will be looking to get back into the win column after suffering two consecutive losses, including one OVC loss.
